Mage and Ranger: Powerful but expensive
As a new character on Runescape, it's often tempting to look towards building Mage and Ranger levels, because attacking from afar can have tremendous advantages in player-vs-monster battle, as well as player-vs-player ones.
However, Mage and Ranger are both VERY EXPENSIVE to advance in comparison to Melee (weapon-in-hand). Many low-level players spend all of their cash on runes and arrows and don't advance near far enough to increase wealth adequately to buy another large round of ammunition, and end up (annoying) beggars in the stores and on many people's "Ignore" lists.
If you have an interest in being a very powerful Mage or Ranger, don't be disheartened by this information - just know that you're probably better to advance other skills that can generate income for you, whether that be through Melee killing, fishing and selling cooked fish to players, mining and smithing armors and selling to specialty shops, or anything other entrepreneurial opportunity that arises.

F2P Level 55 Mage using Runecraft and Magic.
1.) Mine 276 loads of Essence or 7782 ess. (you will end up level 40 mining)
2.) Complete - Rune Mystery, Imp catcher, and Witches Brew quests
3.) runecraft 15 loads(28 ess wearing tiara) Air Runes
4.) r/c 19 loads Mind Runes
5.) r/c 42 loads air runes
6.) r/c 49 loads mind runes
7.) r/c 113 loads air
8.) r/c 38 loads mind
10.) acquire blue wizards hat and robe plus Fire Staff.
11.) Cast Fire Strike 8,355 times, start on cows (collect hide to level craft), then move to Dark Wizards south of Varrock
In the end you will be level 40 mining, level 40 Rune craft, and level 55 Magic. (Your defense will increase will using the staff) After you start killing Dark wizards you will accumulate tons of Natures, Chaos, Law and Cosmics. At level 55 magic you get High Alchemy to make tons of money.
This is a very boring and tedious method, but I gaurantee that you will make one fine pure mage after this.
Or you could just buy camelot or falador teleport runes. <_<

Or.You can use Wind Strike.
You can buy a Staff of Air ( about 1,600 gold) which will cover all air runes, which are used in most spells, and buy a ton of mind runes, which is the last rune needed for Wind Strike.
Then you go the Chicken Coop thats on the way to Varrock by the Cow Pen. You can kill chickens there, of course. You can't take any damage, and you can sell the feathers you get to raise the gold for the mind runes.
It's kinda boring, but it works well enough.
if ur new 2 magic, i suggest buying an air staff. itll save u a load of money on your car insurance by switching to geico, lol. no, itll save you a lot of runes

i think that that method is long yes but it did my caractor some good it took a some thime but no more than what it would take if go there on ure own!!!
hi im doing what that guy said at that start about
1) buying fire staff
2) mining ess
3) coverting into air & mind runes
4) killing things
and it does work and you dont have to do it so big i just mined 1.5k of ess, convert into runes and it will still get me really high magic lvl and it's only taken me a day to do.
hey guys im a lvl 43 pure mage right now and still leveling up. I would like to suggest that it is a good idea to mine rune essence, make it into runes, and use it to get ur magic up. But instead of mining almost 8k of ess it is much easier to buy the ess for 30-40gp ea and then craft it into air runes only!!! because the air altar is the closest altar to the bank. Once u have made 5-10k air runes u can sell them for 20gp ea to make a profit of 100-200k . I'd try selling only half of ur air runes and then using the money u get from selling the rest u can buy any additional runes. This process will save u loads of time as mining rune essence takes forever to mine and also makes a lot of money which can be used for better runes.

use telekinetic grab (lvl 33 magic) and rob varrock bank by city walls (on road 2 fally + Barbarian village)

uumm... yeah if ur mining ess u dont buy for over 30gp, u buy for 25gp at the most, cause i sell ess for 30gp , but i prefer selling 35gp each , common sense d'uh

EHHH hey rs2 fans out there i got 150m and im proud and im lvl 55... wanna know how i got it? this is how i did, i pked in wildy with my full r and guess what? i pked full guthix a saradormin mjarohim a g maul the new and a rune hally... then i bought 500k addyz and gave to my lvl 24 pure ranger.. and pked more..

You know what.... it is much easier than that...get your mage up to crumble undead and cast until you can do wind blast, then(be very carful...death cost alot) go pking... kill people like lvl 30's who have rune items with them. Make sure not to lvl past 40 because everybody has rune then...

umm no fire strike gives u very little exp get money then buy runes and continue cycle im lvl 70 and i spent just now 1m on runes and raise like 500m exp while if u do fire strike ull be doing it forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I spent some time in the Mage Training minigame. In particular I went to the Alchemist Playground. I took a fire staff and 100 natures. What I thought would be a short trip ended up lasting a long time. Here was my stategy.
1 - Casting High Alchemy gains 65 experience.
2 - Waiting for "Green Arrow" allows for all of that indicated item to be converted for free.
3 - I would accumulate 8 of a particular item, those that had not been given the green arrow lately.
4 - Every now and then I would convert 30 without the arrow.
5 - the items are sorted in the cupboards in clockwise order, according to the list (Boots, Kite, Helm, Emerald, Long) So if you are looking for a long and you find a helm, more 2 cupboards to the right and you will find the long.
6 - do not save coins for big deposit. Your computer may crash and you will lose all the coins. Therefore it is best to continue to deposit.
7 - although Im level 69 mage, this method is best for a level 21 member mage. The money that you collect for low alch compare to high alch is the same. Therefore the magic bonus of 2 times the money deposited is the same.
Result.
With only 100 Natures I was able to deposit over 10,000 gp. Averaging about 10 gp per cast, or 1000 high alchs.
total Experience:
1000 High Alchs- 65,000
10,000 gp X 2 - 20,000 bonus
total 85,000
Yes you do not get the gps of high alching mith armor. However, most mages high alch at a loss. This method takes discipline and sometime. However, you can cast an infinate number of alch spells with only 1 nature rune and 5 fire runes in your inventory.
This makes mage advancement abosolutely free after level 21 for all members. If you were to do the same for low alch at level 21, you could be level 45 in one after noon. try it out.
Mage
Ok i admit its expnsive, the best thing to do is to buy an air staff, lots of chaos runes and lots and lots of earths. Go to varrock sewers and use the crumble undead spell on the skeletons, they drop chaos's so you can stay ages. I got my mage up from 39 to 50 in one night!!!
its pretty simple if u wanna b good pker.
a)fish. skip sardines, pike, and tuna when training. when u can fish lobbies, get about 100 cooked and sell for 25-30k
b)buy tons and tons of bronze and iron arrows with the money.
c)kill chickens untill ur range is 10, then go to cows untill 20, then go to barbarians untill it is 30(make sure to bury all bones u get). now here comes the big money
d)get a brass key and go to the hill giants. there are multiple ranger spots that you can use. make sure to train on rapid, keep ONLY THE BIG BONES and expensive runes(natures, laws, deaths, chaos)
e)sell all your big bones when you run out of arrows. they sell from 300-410 each. buy more arrows and get more big bones, do that untill u got 60-70 range( i recommend 70)
f) buy as many rune ess as u can in world 1-4. ull hav like 2-3 mil at least so u shouldnt hav to worry about prices too much
g)do runes mysteries, and start making airs until u get 17 runecrafting. then, make minds until u get 22 rc(make sure to use edgeville bank for mind runes), then airs untill 28 rc, minds until 33 rc, airs until 39 rc, minds until 44 rc, and so on until u run out of ess
h)get mage to 13, then start using fire strike at hill giants. if u feel like it, then u can go to the leser demons and kill from there, but make sure u got good connection, food, and not too many runes(keep it at 500 minds and 1k airs per trip)
i)ull hav tons of money, so use it. i suggest gettin all the deaths and addy arrows that u can. get some ess also so u can make airs and fires.
j) now heres the fun part...owning every1 in sight! bring teleport varrok runes, binds, 100 fire blasts, and 100 addy arrows in ur inventory. here is the suit u gotta wear to walk on every1:
helm: blue mage hat
sheild:none
ammy: power ammy, glory ammy for p2p
shirt: blue mage top
pants: best d-hide chaps u can wear
weapon: best shortbow that u can use
find sum1 with full rune in the wilderness in a less crowded world, but make sure that he is max 10 lvls higher than u( i suggest varrok wildy, they like to go ther). now, most of the time, he will attk u. bind him once and run. u will weigh about 20 kg and the full rune person about 45 kg, so he will run out of energy fast. when he starts walking, you start walking also. keep taking him deeper and deeper and start ranging him down. this is where multiple binds are useful. when ranging him down, also use fire blasts every 2 range hits. if he starts running, then bind him. there are rarely any full rune peeps taht can "run" from u. they like always die
ii started doing the first one with the fire staff and all that.i already got my magic up to v 31 and counting and i got enough mony to get me a rune pick.also i got my mining to lv 52 so his method does work.
it doesn't take that long to mine ess if you have the right pick and a high enough attak lv to hold it.
i just got my attak to 40 and have had a rune pick for a while it doesn't even take me a minute to get one load mined
Well huys i dont really agree i have free world acc as well as 2 other members and the free acc is by far my 2nd most fav acc with 40att and 42 str and 1 def (of course) and 41 mage only lvl 34 it was very enexpensive best way is to work ur way up by kill cows to start but first fish lots of food or mabey post on forum ur buying cakes there really cheap i sold alot of mine from when i did desert treasure on my main (53 tieving reqiered) any how the 34 is very well off when pking collect taroomin weeds from hill giants or other monsters and go on the forums and post that u need some to make str pots for u if no1 does it i will help u but yea ur pure str and mage will be done in no time my lvl 34 hits 13's with rune2h after str pot and i can do wind blast as well cheap yet affective
That actually isnt too bad of an idea. Unless you have a main like I do. If you have a main, just buy body runes, water runes, and get an earth staff, and use the stat affecting spells. Do witches potion and imp catcher, should get you 9 mage from lvl 1. You can also get lvl 7 mage, and train at the mage arena if you're a member. Darkgriffin5 is my main, and X chic n stu is my pker, look them up for proof that it works if you'd like.
ok it's as simple as this... all you have to do is mine say... 2k ess... then do that little mini quest for the abyss and then craft 2k nats... make 2k magic longs and alch. u make about 3m every 2k magic longs.

Go to edgeville, cos were going to wildy. Gear up on some food and some worthless clothes and go northwest to the dark knigts fortress. Inside there are chaos,mind,body,fire,air,earth and water rune spawns. I did this to get tons of runes.

you could do taht but when ur around 50 magic you should get law runes and a staff of air if ur a member then u could run for laws and get them pretty quickly..
Hey how are the rs2 players doing mining pure essence?Well anyway ive got level 30 mining and have done rune mysterys but i can only mine regular essence.But Im not a member althought it says on my mining stats i can.Whats up with this?
i think this is a good method but instead u could always buy yews and fletch em into bows and sell em 800ea and buy a lot o runes with that
u cnt mine rune ess till u do the quest for it.
i did the magic thing to get my magic up and it works my magic is 45 +
i have followed this method and yes it took an extremely long while but i believe i n the end it was abosolutly worth every minute :D
that first post makes some sense it does take long but i tried it i mined 1000 ess and crafted them all into airs then traded half for the equal in mind runes then cast until lvl 17 and repeated the process but sold all the runes for 10k, bought an air staff, then blew the rest on caos and leveld up from there. My mage is level 45 from the plan alone
insted of that boring plan just mine 2000 ess and craft 100 minds and 100 airs go train with half of each nutil all are gone (lvl 17) then sell the rest for 10k (seperate bulks, not all at once) and buy an air staff plus use the rest for chaos. Its a hell of a lot easier and works just as well im level 48 mage already after just 5 days.....
for members theres deaths in felips hills near the big hills.

hi my username is frooninator i am an black pure with 40 attack and 48 strength i also have teleport varock for saftey and 22 prayer (trying to get 25) i started out as a iron pure but that didnt get me anything. so i got 10 def. and i am pking out at hill giants all the time i make tons of cash.
p.s. another way is used to make money was you get an level oh about 15 mage or ranged pure then you look for looters out at hill giants they will be about level 3-5
so you could easily pwn with a mage.
i got full rune from looters and even 500 addy arrows. happy looting looters!

Hey everyone,
I just finished with what that anonymous guy said and it only took me about 30 hours of work. That may seem like a lot, but it really isn't and its paid off. I now can kill almost anyone and can make 1 mil an hour.
one way to earn lots of money or air runes is to air run. go to world 16 and mine 25 rune essence. then go to the air altar with yr 25 essence (unnoted) and see who says something like 'open' or '2k + ess back' or something like that. then go trade with him. he should give u 100 air runes/ 2k with 25 essences in a note for your 25 unnoted essences. just bank the note and withdraw it and 25 essences back. and before u know it, you are 2k / 100 air runes richer!
try to keep a balance between running for air runes and money. use the money to buy mind runes. u can now cast wind strike!
air run a few more times and until u reach 10k or above. then train your wind strike on imps/seagulls/man until u reach level 9. then buy a earth staff and fire staff. use earth strike until lvl 13. then keep using fire strike.
i used this method and i am starting to become a mage. even though i am just lvl 16 magic but with proper training i can advance levels real quickly.
and oh craft mind runes if u want.
