On Scamming, part 3

Another type of scam I am reminded of is a quick one, which I'm actually going to also append to another Scamming post that was written earlier so I don't have to link to this entry as well under Noteworthy Posts on the left hand side.

This scam is a simple one:

Any time someone asks you to send them your username and password, it's a scam.

Don't let your eagerness for new equipment get the best of you - nobody is going to log in as you and give you equipment, because they could do that in a direct trade. What they're going to do is log in and clean you out, and never contact you with an actual character name on the game, so you have nothing to report abuse on.

Sit for a second and think about the realization you'd been scammed, and pretend it's because someone gave you a good reason and you gave them your username and password.

Remember that feeling, and don't fall for anyone asking for your password. Even Jagex wouldn't do that, they'd just change your password and force you to contact them :)

No, I don't work for Jagex or even know anyone who works there. It's just an easier solution for them :)

I was lucky. My bank has a pin number on it and I've posted the security questions. Also, my character was not wearing anything valuable at the time - just regular clothing but no ammys, armour or weapons. I'd also just visited my bank to put stuff in.

So the scammer got my account, and logged in, but could not do anything. All that happend was I had to enter my security questions and change my password to get my account back and everything. I was lucky - but it was a warning. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PIN AND SECURITY QUESTIONS. It keeps you safe.

Benaron Art - Level 76 and rising. (And still f2p!)
